FORMER FIRST MINISTER TAKES UP CHAIRMAN’S ROLE AT FEFA
Henry McLeish formerly Scotland’s First Minister and a former professional football player at East Fife has agreed to become Chairman of the Fife Elite Football Academy. His decision to do so and his vision for the Academy’s future was announced at a press conference yesterday held at Auchmuty High School. TV, radio and the press were well represented at both local and national levels.
The Academy had been looking for a figurehead to lead the drive to take the Academy to the next level and Henry McLeish fills that role perfectly. In 2010 his Review of Scottish Football commissioned by the SFA led in part to the concept of Regional Academies and now he has the opportunity to help shape the future of one.
Board members of FEFA are delighted with the news and each club commented below….
Cowdenbeath FC are delighted to welcome Henry McLeish as Chairman of Fife Elite FA. As a founder member of FEFA, Cowdenbeath FC are committed to continuing to identify and develop young footballers to follow in the footsteps of former players such as Craig Levein and Greg Stewart. The Club currently has 4 FEFA graduates on Modern Apprenticeships with 2 already having made first team appearances. Cowdenbeath FC looks forward to providing more opportunities for young footballers in Fife.
Dunfermline Athletic FC has always regarded Youth Development as both an important and essential part of the club’s football strategy. The club fully supported the concept of a Regional Academy and regards the appointment of Henry McLeish as Chairman as a major benefit in the drive to take the Fife Elite Football Academy to the next level. Already, we have seen Academy graduates make competitive first team debuts and hope that there are many more to follow in the coming years.
East Fife FC are delighted at the appointment of former First Minister of Scotland Henry McLeish as Chairman of the Fife Elite Football Academy. Given that he is a former East Fife player, it further strengthens our links to the Academy. We remain committed to a Regional Academy supported by the four senior Fife clubs and look forward to being part of the ongoing development of the Fife Football pathway.
Raith Rovers FC have made a major commitment to Youth Development, through being part of the Fife Elite Football Academy and also investing in an U20s Development Group at the club. The appointment of Henry McLeish as Chairman which we fully endorse, will help raise the profile of the Academy in Scottish football and be of benefit as we work to create an Academy model which will fully integrate with all levels of football in Fife.
